Aubrey Collins can’t catch a break.
The Littleton teen started off as a country singer. When Nashville shrugged, she went to rock and moved with her entire family to Los Angeles.
She landed on ABC’s touted “The One,” a kind of “American Idol” meets “Real World” that put 11 aspiring performers into a swank house. They competed on Tuesday nights, then one of them got voted off on Wednesday nights.
Collins, 18, was voted off the show last Wednesday (by her fellow contestants!) - and then ABC canceled the series completely after two weeks and some of the most abysmal ratings in broadcast history. It won bragging rights as the lowest-rated show in ABC history among 18-49ers, and the lowest-rated reality show on TV this summer, and the second-lowest-rated series premiere in the history of broadcast TV, according to Nielsen Media Research.
I mean, talk about a bummer. At least no one was watching.
Collins sang “Let’s Get It On” the first outing and “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” the second outing. “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” was her swan song.
The show’s website reads: “There are no plans for additional episodes. Thanks to all who participated in and supported ‘The One’!”
One down, two up
Colorado is not done with its talent show moment. Not by a long shot.
We have two contestants on tonight’s 7 o’clock premiere airing of NBC’s “Star Tomorrow.” The show is another “American Idol” clone, but the cast members perform their own material and all the voting is done by home viewers, not judges.
Fort Collins native Melanie Pedersen is on with the stage name Shaley Scott. And Grand Junction native Tim Corley is also a contestant. Tonight, the field is pared down from 100 to 50. “They’re really great and they’re really awful, which makes for a really great show,” says host Michele Merkin on nbc.com/startomorrow. “And of course I’m hosting it and I’m just fantastic.”
